BENTLEY V UNIT (SPECIFICATION FOR PRODUCTION).

On going through the up to date LOP's for the above there are several features which should be cleared up and are as follows.

Crankcase and Bearings LOP.EB.4554.

Main bearings with Hoyt's whitemetal, as recently approved by run on S.B.

Crankshaft LOP.EB.3656.

The only difference compared with Wraith is that lighter balance weights are used on Bentley V.{VIENNA} In view of the "overdrive" and in consequence, lower engine speeds, the Wraith type of balance weights should be used for Bentley V.{VIENNA} This also applies to the Continental B.V.

Cylinders LOP.EB.4317.

This calls for Neuprene rubbers under the rocker thumb nuts EB.4316. These, however, are unsatisfactory and std. springs should be used for the 50 sets. If a satisfactory rubber can be found it will be a better job than springs giving improved noise insulation from the valve gear.

Valves and Fittings LOP.EB.4310.

In conjunction with the deeper cupped push rod EB.4516, a longer adjusting screw should be used E.89386. The LOP calls for the old screw EB.3287.

Oil Relief Valve, Oil Pump and Main Pipe.

Owing to a foul on the cross steering tube the main oil pipe from the pump to the relief valve has had to be modified to ECD.1264.

This should be included on the LOP., but the parts affected not released until a set up has been made and tried experimentally.
