Chromium Plated Parts - Chassis Costs.

Will you kindly instruct an alteration in material for split pin - G.79140 to stainless steel. The present material used is mild steel chromium plated all over; the split pin is used in the hand brake lever pawl pin, and, therefore, has to be of some non corrodible material. The cost is 4d per pin, whereas we can purchase stainless steel pins at 6/- per gross (or 1/2d each).

This case shows up the necessity for taking great care in choosing materials, the cost of chromium plating a standard mild steel pin has resulted in the cost of the finished article being eight times greater than it would have been had a stainless pin been instructed.
