R.R. 63 (100 T) (S.F. 101. 25-10-18.) Bm. 1/133/9. X4150 1 Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} BY6-P19.7.21. X4150 X.1024 TORQUE TUBE & PROPELLER SHAFT. RE QUESTION OF THRUST OF BEVEL PINION (GLEASON TYPE) I am sending you herewith the final reply of the Hoffmann Manufacturing Company, in regard to the use of the journal bearing in order to take up thrust. Apparently the load on the bevel pinion, 16 tooth, is about 1600 lbs on direct drive when the engine is developing its maximum torque. The increase of pressure in tooth on the first speed is considerable, as the load is then 5500 lbs, but of course we are not often using the first speed with maximum engine torque. BY. {R.W.
