4508 To By & E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}12/KW.19.11.35. Re Big Bore Bentley & 20/25 HP. Air Silencers. With regard to the instructions already given for the above air silencers, we would point out that we have now completed 15,000 miles on 5-B-IV car with a lightened type of silencer and now wish to standardise these parts on our Big Bore models. The following represents our modifications on the Bentley :- Intake Bend Ex.20017 to be made in magnesium instead of aluminium. Air Silencer which is now made in 16 SWG. material to have the following parts or corresponding parts made in 20 SWG. material - EB.733. Connecting Pipe from cast bend to Air Silencer. EB.1611. Outer Shell. EB.727. Centre Pipe. EB.1696. Baffle. E.83765. * E.83764. End Piece. E.83767. Inner Frame to remain as at present, i.e., 18 SWG. G.50029, E.18304 & D.51405 Rivets should be in steel instead of aluminium. On the 20/25 HP. air silencer all corresponding parts to those mentioned above should also be in 20 SWG. material. The bend Ex.19465 to be made in magnesium. Rivets of course should be in steel also. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/G.H. Whyman. | ||
