We think that it will be better for us to reamer the bearings to a size to suit the crankshaft after lapping same.

Please find attached a sketch showing the damage to the upper half of the crankcase. As agreed to by you on the phone, we have handed the above to Messrs. Lassal, (Specialists in Aluminium welding whom we spoke to you about on the phone), for examination and as to what the cost would be to repair it, however, we now think it preferable not to have the repairs put in hand until we hear from you.

Messrs. Lassal's have informed us that they can carry out the repairs quite easely and absolutely guarantee the job.

In this connection please find attached a translation of a letter dated the 17.9.36 which we received from this firm and which you will find self explanatory.

Will you please arrange to have sent to us 6 new conn. rods, we will leave it to your own judgement whether n°. 2 conn. bearing should be a little undersize.

We attach our order n°. I224 for the rods which we presume that you will make arrangements for it to be handed to "B/BP".

We hope that on the new upper half which you are sending us, that the engine gear centres will be as near the original ones as possible.

Sr/VA. VA

P.S.- The order n°. I224 was sent to you on the 8.12.36, reference Sr/VA29/GM.
Mr. Martenet, Messrs. Lassal's enginner informed us that it would assist him if we could let him have the composition of the aluminium castng alloy of which the crankcase is made.
Since typing this memo Messrs. Lassal have informed us that the cost of repairing the upper and lower half of the crankcase would amount to approx.Fcs: 700.-
Only minor repairs are needed to the lower half and we are having same repaired.
Mr. Martenet also informed us that he has fairly frequently to repair upper halves of certain other firms on which the conn. rods or sleeve valve operating rods have come through the case.
