Dear Sirs,

3½ litre Bentley - AXU. 136.
Chassis No. B.149/AE.

Following the conversation I had with your Service Department this afternoon, I am sending in this car to you in order that you may examine it generally, and report to me any work advisable.

It seems however, that:

1. Top de-carbonisation is probably necessary, but perhaps you will verify this before actually undertaking the work. It had a bottom de-carbonisation in April 1937.

2. There seems to be a good deal of play in the drive to the back axle, and though I understand there is no adjustment which can be made between the crown and the bevel pinnion, yet possibly, you may be able to put in new bearings here, which will make the car last much longer than it otherwise would. Please understand, however, that if in your opinion the car is likely to be satisfactory for, say, another 20,000 miles as it is, I do not want to incur unnecessary expenditure in having new bearings fitted, for I can put up with a slight occasional noise.

3. Examination of the braking system - if one puts down the foot brake quickly there seems to be rather a jar and the operation of the brakes seems to be somewhat harsh. Here again, if the
