Contd. -4- It becomes a question, whether some sort of locking device is not desirable, and we would be glad to hear whether the Dunlop Co. are trying out any such schemes to their own or to your designs, because if they have any thing good we should most naturally like to get it on the cars over here as soon as you can put it on in England. At present we are carrying on with Goodyears on imported cars. You will notice from Mr. Ferfusson's letter that the Pierce-Arrow are using Rudge-Whitworth wire wheels and Stanwell rims (very few Pierce-Arrows have wire wheels). I will write the Rudge Whitworth people here, asking their opinion,s, and report further. Note. The locking device I suggested on the Firestone rims was a bolt at the gap of the lock ring to keep its ends in place (sketches to yourself and Mr. Hives). They said they had formerly fitted such a device but it had always been lost. An alternative would be to weld lugs on each end of the spring ring and put a bolt in which need have no loose parts. thus:- Contd. | ||
