blight, spread by the "Stylists" who demand such terrific sums for their unnecessary trimware changes that many of the working parts of the car are almost stagnant, except for the continual cheese-paring and penny-showing which gradually reduces their cost.

Several successful "raids" on the industry may be significant of changing conditions. For example the Willys (Overland) and the Studebaker "Champion". Each of these represents a marked reduction in size, weight, and running cost, and is successful because it gives the public something closer to what they want - than they can obtain from the "Big Three".

C) The British Industry.

For some years the British Industry has been advancing rather hesitatingly, a year or two behind the American. And it is almost true of certain makes that they can be recognised as American designs of one or two years back.
