WST x 6.35. To Ser - from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C. Wes. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Ha/Wst. BY/RD. C/LNW. E/JMS. E.1/HP.30.6.36. 25/30 HP. Chassis Instrument Board. This is to confirm telephone discussion concerning the position with regard to using the Phantom III switchbox and instruments on the 25/30 chassis. It should be borne in mind that we already have a demand for the electric clock on the 25/30 HP. chassis which we supply at an extra charge, and also that one of our large retailers has approached the makers to see what they can give him in the way of a revised instrument board with a large speedometer, because he thinks our present arrangement is out-of-date. Present costs of instrument equipment. 25/30 HP. - £16/13/11d. Phantom III. - £18/9/6d We are able to effect a reduction in the cost of the speedometer of 16/-, if purchased in larger quantities. Other instruments - no reduction. Therefore, the revised figure for the Phantom III would become:- £17/13/6d. Applying the Phantom III scheme to the 25/30 HP. would mean an extra 19/7d, but this would include an electric clock, for which at the present time 14/6d is paid extra. It is unfortunate that the saving we have effected on the switchbox is to be transferred to Smiths, but it only illustrates that their initial prices to us must have been exceptionally cut. If a change is to be made an early decision will prevent scrap, and ensure that this new scheme be on chassis which will be shown at Olympia this year. | ||
