[STAMP: FILE 15 JUN 1928] NEW REAR AXLE RATIO FOR 20 HP. CHASSIS. A standardisation sheet is being circulated for the standardisation of a lower ratio for the 20 HP. car, the ratio in question being 10/47. Before anything can be done in quantity on this proposal it will be necessary for the Works to take in hand a certain number of the gears to see to what extent the new ratio will increase their difficulties, as obviously we cannot make any promise to Sales as to when the gears are likely to materialise until the Works have actually produced a fair number of the gears, and are therefore able to tell us whether they can accept instructions to produce these gears for production in the general way. The reason for the new gear ratio is mainly to enable the balloon tyre to be used on the 20 HP. instead of the medium pressure. The balloon tyres have been standardised, but are not in production, because they lift the car due to their increased diameter, hence the need for the lower gear ratio to bring us back to our present position when combined with the balloon tyre.
