10HH COPY FOR FILES. To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} Typed, 18.5.39. Re your queries on 8-cyl. engine. (1) Conventional pattern has been made to suit either high power or Conventional head. (No high power top pattern has been made). (2) Alum dry liner parts have not been detailed PD.308 egc. (3) No pattern has been made for the modified high power head on the 8-cylinder and is confined to the 6-cylinder. Would recommend that until we have proved value of the modified head on the 6-cylinder we should hold it up for the 8. (4) 80 pattern has not yet been changed back to a '60'. 3 castings have been taken off 80 patterns, 3 more to be taken. The above applies to the latest pattern 2 3/4 crank engine. Only 2 engines are allocated B.80 Nos. 5 and 6. (5) Regarding the old 80 original pattern 2 castings were taken and built in Nos. 1 and 2 units. The pattern was then altered to raised valve guides, 4 more castings were taken, 2 used to make Nos. 3 and 4 units and 2 returned to Iron Foundry unmachined. Believe these are scrapped. (6) B.60 engines. 4 engines made and 2 spare castings part machined. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} | ||
