81300 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}32/AP. Experimental Department 16th November 1936. Messrs. The Adamant Engineering Co.Ltd., Dallow Road, LUTON For the attention of Commdr. Matravers. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 14th inst. and for the prints enclosed with it. We are somewhat puzzled by the question of backlash on the 25/30 HP. roller as we were not aware of any further change to either the cam or roller since the introduction of the increased cutting radius. We would be glad if you could let us know in what way the latest parts differ from those which we examined in your Works, and which shewed the excessive backlash. Also, if you could let us know the drawing numbers of the parts with this backlash and the numbers of the later parts. Is it possible that you have found a way of making gear wheels with one quarter of a tooth so that the lead can be kept exactly at 0.700 ? Our order Office will send you an official order for the two special Ph.III. cams very shortly. Yours Faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
