3-AZ-38 - London Trials.

With regard to the insertion of rubber between the axle and the back springs which you fitted last week, I tried this car last night over exactly the same road that I tried it/immediately before it was sent to you, and whilst there is no doubt that the transmission noises, including tyres, are less than they were before, the result is not so good as I had hoped and believed, particularly in view of your remarks to me when I was last at the Works that we should see a great difference. But of course every little helps.

The worst speed for this car is 18-20 m.p.h., i.e. the official speed limit in the London Parks, and of course there is still a good deal of noise noticeable even with this latest modification.

It is perhaps fortunate that the critical speed in this case is not around 30 m.p.h., at which speed one has to drive so frequently these days.

I thought you would like to have these views.

Of course the car is very nice and very much impresses people who try it, but that of course does not mean, I am sure, that you will not continue with experiments to still further reduce any noises of the nature under review.
