600 14.9.37. TYPE TEST FOR WRAITH. (1) Duration of 250 hrs. on test bed. (a) Each hour 40 mins. at 4,000 R.P.M. 18 mins. at 4,200 R.P.M. 2 mins. at 4,400 R.P.M. Full load for 7 hrs. } Half load for 2 hrs. } 10 hrs. Quarter load for 1 hr. } (b) Following each 10 hrs. under the above conditions, readings over the power curve range as follows. R.P.M. 500 Duration of 1 hr. at each speed full load. 1,000 " " " half load. 1,500 " " " quarter load. 2,000 Finally 1 hr. idling and unit out of gear at 2,500 speeds up to 1,000 R.P.M. 3,000 3,500 4,000 Running under (a) and (b) conditions contributes a total of 25 hrs. which should be repeated 20 times. (c) Before and after the endurance a power curve open exhaust and with silencer should be taken. (d) Before starting the endurance the unit should be up to standard for power, no oil or water leaks, the timing gears quietened, the carburettor adjusted and in short to have no complaint. (e) All failures leaks (oil, water and petrol) and reasons for shutting down to be recorded once the endurance has commenced. This applies down to the slightest detail as per tightening the water pump gland or any nut on the unit. (f) Tappet clearances and amount of adjustment to be recorded so that a complete history is available. (g) Oil consumption to be recorded. | ||
