1280 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.5/MH.{M. Huckerby} 13th. December 1937. Messrs. John Marston Ltd., Wolverhampton. For the attention of Mr. Dunn. Dear Sirs, We have received from you the Bently Dimmy shutter set which we ordered some time ago and which has already been returned once to you as unsatisfactory. We are definitely not satisfied with the set as delivered now, especially as it should as far as possible represent the production article which you will supply. Our criticisms of the assembly are as follows - (1) Again the hole centres in the support plates are incorrect. Although each top plate has its holes correctly spaced relative to each other, the vertical distance from the top plate holes to the bottom support plate holes is too great by .125 - .150. (2) The position of the shutters relative to the top plates and bottom plate is incorrect, with the result that when dropped into position on the radiator, the gap between the centre shutters is .437 at the bottom, instead of .500 and .687 at the top instead of .500 - further thegap between the top plate ends is .110 instead of .050. (3) The stiffener is fixed to the shutter in an extremely shoddy and crude manner. In many cases it can easily be seen that the stiffener tabs are nowhere near in metallic contact with the shutters but have a gap between them and the shutter which has been filled up with solder. In the case of one shutter (the 3rd. from thecentre on the off side of the grille) the gap is | ||
