X53240 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Ss.{S. Smith} 20 HP. 10,000 Miles' Test Car. [Strikethrough: Come to rest] Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}12/E18.4.29 Referring to HsS/LG10.4.29 I understand this car has come back because it was considered unsatisfactory, not in regard to any of the new features but in regard to certain standard parts. I also understand that whilst in France the car covered a distance of about 2500 miles. It will be recollected that, although Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} and the technical officials were of the opinion in February that a 10,000 miles' test of this car was not necessary, they subsequently came to the conclusion that it ought to be done, and I confirm what was said yesterday, namely, that, even if the car is not returned to France, it ought to be run as quickly as possible with a view to putting up mileage as soon as possible so that we may have the assurance that all the new parts especially in connection with the central oiling scheme are functioning correctly. It is important that this should be pushed on with as chassis with these modifications are now in course of manufacture. We should like to have daily reports of what is being done just the same as we do when a car is being run in France. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} | ||
