RE. LUBRICATORS.

We have at last been able to obtain a satisfactory English made pressure feed lubricator similar to the Alemite scheme. We have tested and condemned schemes from Messrs. Rotherham, T.B. Andre and E.H. Hill. The Lubricator and Gun which we are very pleased with have been supplied by Benton and Stone, Birmingham. We consider the Lubricators and grease-gun from Benton & Stone are better than anything else we have seen. They are better than the Alemite or the Rimtco of U.S.A. The advantages in the Benton & Stone are:-

1. The whole of the parts are very well made and all of substantial design.

2. There is a non-return valve in the grease gun which prevents any grease from coming out of the gun until it is actually fixed to the lubricator. It would not be possible to have a non-return valve on a lot of systems because the connection is of a type that it is impossible to remove them until the pressure is released. Having the non-return valve makes the operation of greasing much cleaner. We have completely greased a R-R Car without seeing any grease at all from the gun or the connection, the only grease we have seen is that which was forced from the bearings.

3. The grease gun has a similar arrangement to the Alemite; in order to get the piston to enter the cylinder when it is full of grease.

The only criticism we have against the scheme at all is that it takes a longer time to operate because the connection has to be screwed on and screwed off. With the Alemite scheme with the bayonet joint, it is, however, necessary to unscrew the grease gun to relieve the pressure every time it is
