MERLIN ENGINE TYPE TEST.

On completion of the type test the engine will be completely stripped and laid out for examination.

The following are the main points to be noted:-

(a) General cleanliness of the engine.
(b) Condition of pistons, rings and gudgeon pins. Cylinder bores.
(c) Condition of all bearings (big ends, mains, reduction gear, supercharger etc).
(d) Condition of supercharger rotors and casing, and supercharger drive.
(e) Condition of reduction gear pinions and wheel.
(f) Condition of all oil pumps, filters and pipe lines.
(g) Any signs of fretting between components.
(h) Condition of valves and seatings.
(i) Carbon deposit in combustion chambers.
(j) Sludge deposit in crankshaft and other oilways.
