-3- Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/MJ.31.1.31. Cont. "DOUBLE CARBURETTERS DRAWING FROM CRANKCHAMBER". E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} agreed that this demands a new crankchamber design. Expl. Dept are rigging up temporary schemes. "GEARBOX SUPPORT AND SOFTER RUBBER IN FRONT WITH OR WITHOUT NOSE SUPPORT". Expl. Dept. reported that they had tried Diabolo rubbers in connection with the rear gearbox support and the result was nothing like as good as they obtained with the Diamond engine mounting. "FORGED ALUMINIUM PISTONS AND RODS". It was thought that this should be held up until we carried out tests with magnesium pistons. It was thought that no useful purpose could be served by buying the Bentley car. "PHANTOM ONE PIECE CYLINDER BLOCK". E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} was doubtful whether this would give us any definite advantage. If they were building up a new engine it could be made use of. "STRENGTHENED CRANKCASE". This would be an entirely new design. "SUGGESTED TAIL BEARING BY DOING AWAY WITH FLEXIBLE COUPLING". This would be tested but doubtful whether any immediate use could be made of it. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} pointed out that in considering modification all existing stocks should be taken into account, chassis and material at Works, coachbuilders, and Show Rooms. There would be approximately 200 cars. (This is not intended to be a definite figure.) Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} brought down to St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} Albans 24-EX. car which the Expl.
