Re: Scuttle and Dash Isolation

I have just received from London Blue print F 54650, modification F I0726, representing reinforced scuttle hoop recommended by Works.

The drawing shows a totally isolated dash, the scuttle being reinforced by means of steel angle plates.

I am not sure whether we should issue these blue prints to the coachbuilders as we have already written to them recommending the semi flexible isolation scheme which is totally different from the mounting illustrated in F 54650.

We find that this scuttle mounting as suggested by London has given us a lot of trouble due to matchboxing and whipping of windscreens; moreover French Coachbuilders will probably strongly object to our interfering with the design of the scuttle which is part of the coachwork, and, in their opinion, has nothing to do with the chassis.

I do not think we shall have trouble with Binder, but Hibbard & Darrin, Kellner, Franay, etc. will probably not pay any attention to our suggestions for an imporved design in scuttles.

The semi flexible arrangement seems to be much more popular amongst the French Coachbuilders, and even Hibbard & Darrin have agreed to adopt our methods if we furnish them with the necessary material, such as rubber strips, bolts, nuts and washers.

Will you please instruct me which of the two methods is to be recommended for our Phantom and 20-HP chassis.

Please find attached Blue print F 54650 mentioned above.
