Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.3/ADS.1.32. X6134 SEQUENCE STARTER MOTOR FOR P.II, J.3. and PEREGRINE In our Instruction Book we specially ask customers not to repress the starter button too early following a non-start. The reason for this is that the motor armature takes time to come to rest after working, and to press the button again whilst the armature is in rotation would damage the pinion and flywheel gear ring teeth. We suggest that a flat friction disc be fitted to the commutator end of the armature and made to rub in the "off" position against a flat surface on the bearing bracket. It would be a definite advantage in bringing the armature quickly to rest thus enabling the second operation to be made quickly. Owing to the fact that we have a fairly strong engaging force not dependent on inertia as on the 20/25 HP., there should be no trouble due to sticking in the "off" position.
