BY/Cgh{W Clough}7/G7.3.35 We are certainly in agreement that instructions should be given immediately for the modified instruments with concave dials and larger trip figures to be put in hand. Presumably it should not be difficult for Smiths to advise you what extra cost will be involved, and we should like to have this information immediately you can obtain it from them - this need not interfere with your instructing them to get ahead with the manufacture of the new style of instruments. We are disappointed to note that Smiths will require approximately four months to bring the new instruments through, and we are taking the matter up with them again in the hope that we can shorten this period. So far as concerns the introduction of the modified instruments on the P.II and 20/25, we wish it to be understood that we want this to take place at the very earliest opportunity. Therefore the actual point at which the new instruments are introduced can be decided when we know definitely from Smiths the date on which supplies will be available. In regard to Bentley chassis, in this case also we want to introduce the new instruments at the earliest possible moment. We cannot think that the standard instruments at present ordered are all manufactured, and although the supplies on order are intended to provide for chassis up to the end of "g" series, perhaps it would be possible to revise the instructions so that the new style of instruments are substituted at a much earlier date. Will you kindly go into this matter with Smiths. We are meantime noting that Smiths will submit to us a further set of instruments with concave dials with the figuring in Old English style. This however need not delay the preparation of the new instruments, as we shall be able to give a decision concerning the figures some considerable while before the instruments reach this stage in their manufacture.
