To DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to C.L., R.W.R., A.F.C.S., H.S., B.P.O. x4342 X4342 x 543 X4359 x 294 RE R.R. DYNAMOS AND MOTORS - "GOSHAWK I" AND II" 40 HP. CHASSIS. We have sent you under cover of our memo E1/G9/6:/ drawing Lec.1405 which gives the proportions for the complete range of dynamos and motors of R.R. design for large and small chassis - future programme. This drawing also gives detail particulars of "Goshawk II" motor and dynamo. One winding only now is required for the armature for the latter, namely, - 29 sections, 8 turns per section, .040" wire (19 S.W.G.) Also, as stated in a recent telegram, Mr. Royce thinks that we should not bother with anything different for "Goshawk I" but should apply the "Goshawk II" dynamo and motor to "Goshawk I". There will be, as you know, a different ratio for the starter motor, and perhaps you will see what is required to accommodate this. We hope to receive from you in due course, the results of the calculations of the electrical quantities for the "Goshawk II" machines, and drawings shewing the space required for the field windings, and also shewing the final details of the armature windings, so as to enable us to complete the designs of these machines.
