We have telegraphed to you this morning,
as follows :-

" DESPATCH FRONT ROAD SPRINGS FOR NINETYTHREE "
" NK COMPLETE WITH SHACKLE PINS AT ONCE "
" LETTER FOLLOWING - HANCOCK. "

On yesterday's run, after fitting new top leaf to O.S.F. spring, four of the leaves collapsed, and four are badly cracked. As we have no spare new springs here complete, we have dug out old leaves of springs that had been fitted to 98 NK, and made up a spring, using our new top leaf temporarily, to keep the car on the road. We have no record of this spring we have built up, so we cannot give you any data on it.

We have also found the distance piece, which is in the form of a spring for clutch stop broken. A portion of this has worked through, and is now loose on the clutch coupling shaft, i.e. I am not quite certain of the position of this distance piece. In any case it means dismantling the clutch to refit a new one.

As you will see by our reports, we have been running our daily 500 miles, so that we could get our oil consumption tests through to you. You will observe on the first real day's run, we got an oil consumption of 1341.3 m.p.g. The second day's run, it dropped down to 731.2 m.p.g. and on yesterday's run, it was 898.2 m.p.g. This is a considerable improvement over the consumptions we had previously. You will notice that it has somewhat settled down, and that my data is about correct, i.e. about a fourth of the English consumption. I am still con-fident that if better provision was made for cooling the oil, we should get better oil consumption results.

Re your letter of the 15th inst., our air temp-erature is taken by hanging a thermometer at the rear portion of the car. Our temperatures that we have noted in the shade, i.e. our office, have been up to 29°C. Our average temperature has been 27°C. We will hang a thermometer outside, in the shade, and let you have the figures.

Re tyre carriers on 93 NK. I am sorry I omitted to remark on these in my last report. These are in a sound condition.

We have noted your comments re copies of reports in the future. We are afraid that our typewriter will soon
