To R. {Sir Henry Royce} from Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to BJ. Wor. {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to RG. {Mr Rowledge} E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X1474 Hsl/LG15.6.28. VALVE STEELS. As far as our tests have gone up to date, we can say that from results in the engine that KE.965 austenitic steel appears to be a satisfactory alternative for the present silchrome. The tests are being continued with valves made of a reduced section. Also bars of this material are being obtained in order that forgings can be produced in our own Works.
