Further to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}2/MH.{M. Huckerby} 27.4.38. NO. 30 BED. B.III No.1 UNIT (a Bed). Continue double exhaust system investigation on following lines both for power comparison and noise. (a) Double outlet manifold with 2 completed B.II exhaust systems. (b) As (a) but without front expansion box which should be substituted by equivalent length of pipe. (c) As (b) but without intermediate silencers, substituted by equivalent length of pipe. (d) As (a) but without intermediate silencers, substituted by equivalent length of pipe. Comparison of above tests for power with open exhaust figure. With 2 complete systems take following curves, other conditions of the unit being as Std. B.III. (a) Small valve head, i.e. 1.5 Inlet and 1.3 Exhaust which with std. C and A gasket will give a compression ratio of 6 : 1 (head 130 ccs). (b) Std. head, i.e. 1.6 Inlet and 1.4 Exhaust with same capacity as (a) (c) Head as (a) but with inlet valves opened up to std. 1.6 dia. (d) If (c) shows up an appreciable improvement over (a) and no loss against (b) then inlets to be opened up to 1.700 dia. and then running with 1.3 dia. exhaust valves. | ||
