re SpectreCodename for Phantom III Bodies.

Referring to the question you raise in your memo Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}6/E.20.2.35, I have deferred answering this until I had visited Park Ward's to see the No.3. SpectreCodename for Phantom III and discussed certain proposed experimental improvements.

Personally I feel that where Rolls-Royce order an experimental body it should be run at the joint responsibility of Rolls-Royce and the coachbuilder concerned, and it would appear that the coachbuilder who normally supplies our experimental bodies would be prepared to work cooperatively on this basis.

To take SpectreCodename for Phantom III 3 as an example, the Specification - EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/MN.3.1.35 of this body has been approved by the body builder and there is no feature included which is there without his consent. The same specification has also been agreed to by Sales and Derby.

At this juncture we wish to introduce a number of experimental improvements to this body as shewn on the attached sheet. The coachbuilder is very keen to try out these features and we should be glad to receive Sales approval. We are also applying the same modifications to the mounting of this body as we have introduced for No.2. SpectreCodename for Phantom III in respect to the increased number of more rigid body brackets and lateral anchorage at the tail.

I mention these matters to show in what way the coachwork development policy is working out and it seems to me that only in this way shall we make the maximum progress towards producing a composite body approaching the standards of mechanical strength and permanence represented by all steel coachwork.

I do not propose to set out in this memo the whole
