On Chassis No. 24-WJ (Wallace) and now on 169-XJ, the Relay Coil on the Automatic Main Switch was found burnt out, although still working, and on examination of 169-XJ it was found that the Button of the Starter Switch jammed in the hole of the Face Plate of that Switch. This is due to the Coachbuilder making the Instrument Board thicker than 3/4", which thickness is instructed on our Instrument Board, and then fitting the Plate slightly out of centre, with the result that the Button is pressed through the Plate, and does not return its full amount thereby keeping the Carbon Contacts together and permitting current to continually pass through the Relay Coil. At the time of dealing with 24-WJ, we asked for the Starter Switch to be returned and were informed that the chassis had left N. (A/ML/GS21-10-30). It is, however, essential that N. should see that this car is corrected because no doubt the fault still exists and a recurrence of the trouble will result. This is an important point to watch on final test of cars : Will Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} please issue an instruction to Depots to check that the Starter Switch has been fitted correctly and that the Button returns its full travel freely.
