X7772. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Dal/M24.5.30. L.H. P.2. With reference to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/MJ20.5.30, several of the items applicable to "CamachaHenry Royce's office in West Wittering" have not previously been heard of and we are not quite sure what they mean. (2) If this refers to the starting handle in conjunction with the front bumpers we are dealing with this and shall send instructions in a short while. (6) We presume this is due to the central levers. We think it would be better to investigate it on the actual chassis if possible and send us a layout with suggestions. (7) If this refers to the connection between the axles and the frame we have schemes well in hand and expect to despatch tomorrow. The connection to the front shock dampers has already been instructed. (8) We presume this refers to the accelerator pedal shaft preventing the clutch pedal coming back. Examining LF.1234, it appears as though the trouble was due to the bent clutch pedal, for which there seems no justification. We suggest that it should run straight from its boss on the shaft to the boss at the stem, the latter being kept in its present position. (9) We instructed a nut which prevented the possibility of dust etc. entering the gearbox. We now understand that it is desired to cover the sphere and shall send some suggestions in the course of a day or two. The prevention of gas leaks through the gear tower and round the brake lever is also in hand. (10) We do not think any instructions are required from us. (12) It was suggested that stronger springs, namely, 21 lbs. instead of 7 lbs. should be tried. We have not heard whether this effected an improvement. We are sending you immediately some instructions with a view to reducing the side clearance. | ||
