To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} Y 1163 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}1/MH.{M. Huckerby}1.4.38. TORSIONAL INDICATOR. URGENT. Will you please make a set of arms for the above on the following lines which have been found to give the most satisfactory results. We are endeavouring to make this a reliable instrument as it is very valuable in our crankshaft development work. (1) General section of the arms as Ex.28016B and Ex.28018B in same S/N material heat treated to give a Brinell figure of 321. (2) We have dimensions of balance weights for the two individual arms giving correct inertia balance. (3) The arms at the fulcrum pin have a bearing width of .187 and due to loading develop slack after several curves which creates false diagrams. BZ/PC bushes .5" long should be inserted in arms to reduce this wear. (4) At the pointer end of the arm Ex.28016B the fork which carries the pointer is offset from the C L of the actual arm and this creates high stress in the arm. Will you look into the possibility of this pointer hole coming on the C L of the arm. (5) New pins to carry the arms are necessary on account of the increased bearing width, which should be in S/ZN. hardened. Further to the above will you please make a clip to hold recording discs to Ex.28008. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} | ||
