Messrs. S. Smith & Sons Ltd.,
Cricklewood works,
LONDON, N.W.2.

For the attention of Mr. Dorer.

Dear Sirs,

We have received the two sample thermometers to DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}1360 fitted with special small diameter capillaries to give a dead beat effect, and have tested them out.

One seemed to have achieved this dead beat effect very satisfactorily but one of them failed shortly after being put on test, and we are returning it to you for rectification. We have not discovered the location or cause of failure.

Will you please be good enough to let us know at the earliest possible moment

(1) Whether you are in a position to standardise this small capillary on any of our instruments to D.75953 if required.

(2) What precise effect the use of this small capillary will have on the price of any of our production instruments.

(3) At what period you could bring this small diameter capillary in against our Order No. 54760.

(4) Whether you have any experience of the use of this capillary.

An early reply to these queries would be much appreciated.

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
Experimental Dept.
