Irregular running of Engine

We have carried out a series of tests on 27.G.VI to find out the cause of the above fault, which developed after 5,000 miles running.

The symptoms which were first noticed when running in London traffic are, irregular pulling of engine at speeds ranging from 15 to 30 m.p.h. Subsequently,"popping back" in the carburetter occurs; and, eventually, actual misfiring develops.

The tests carried out are as follows:-

(1) Fitted carburetter taken from chassis on test. No improvement.

(2) Tests made of various coils:
A.{Mr Adams} Another standard Wraith coil. No improvement
B. Standard Delco coil ......... " "
C. New type Delco coil ......... " "
D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} New type R.R.coil in metal casing ..... " "
E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Lucas "Speed" coil ........ " "
F.{Mr Friese} Lucas coil as fitted to Vauxhall ...... Slight improvement

(3) Changed ballast resistance. No improvement

(4) Replaced R.R.condenser by Delco type. No improvement

(5) Increased capacity of condenser by putting two in parallel. No improvement
