CHASSIS 40-LK.{L. King} W.WILSON ESQ.
PETO & RADFORD BATTERY.

With reference to D/BP4/CW.18.1.26. giving copy of report made by Messrs P & R.{Sir Henry Royce} in connection with the battery returned by the above owner, we do not know whether the P & R.{Sir Henry Royce} Company reported to the owner, but we are surprised that they should be so admissive.

We have discussed the matter with EFC. and if the statement is correct that the positive plates are entirely worn out, it is definite proof that the battery has been over-charged, therefore we do not see how the P & R Company can be expected to carry out the repairs free of charge, also batteries are not covered by our guarantee.

If the P & R.{Sir Henry Royce} Company have not reported direct to the owner, we suggest that the latter is informed the reason for the rather premature failure of the battery as given above, also the position in regard to the charges as given in the second paragraph of your memo. It might also be pointed out that the life of the internal elements of any battery with careful treatment is considered to be from 2½ to 3 years at the outside, as once a battery is put into use the internal elements are always deteriorating, and if the battery does not receive correct and careful treatment then its life is reduced, consequently we could hardly be expected to give any guarantee.
