(2) N. scheme 2981. Shews the arrangement of the scuttle armature at the dashboard and its fixing to the front end of the subframe. The standard semi-isolation bolts will be used, but this need not worry you as they will be fitted by Derby. N. schemes 2982/86. Shew the arrangement of the rear floor. It will be noticed that the subframe is provided with cast aluminium pots which will ensure the correct clearances being maintained over the propeller shaft, chassis frame, and cross member. All that you have to do is to fit the boards. We would point out that inorder to make the excrescences in the floor of the minimum height we have shewn the sponge rubber not passing over them but abutting against their edges. The arrangement of the floorboards, that is to say, those which are on the chassis, will be carried out on the lines adopted for Phantom 11. We understand that you will receive a subframe in about 10 days time. We think this will leave you nice time to produce the full size drawing. We would like this drawing to shew at least all the information and detail included in the various drawings which we have submitted to you. Especially do we wish to see the arrangement and mechanism of the auxiliary seats, and the proposed ironing of the various joints of the body. The writer will call on you as soon as the full size drawing is completed, so that even should the subframe not have arrived you can be going ahead roughing out some of the timbers. As stated in our specification the body will be collected from you complete, with partly finished wings, etc, and mounted by our Derby Works. It is therefore very important that all our clearances as specified on our drawings should be strictly adhered to. This subframe being like that for Phantom 11., much, if not all, of our book on the body subframe is equally applicable to this car. As we believe you have already been informed we wish you to look upon this as confidential work on behalf of the Company, and to treat it as such. The car, when complete, will be used by Mr. Royce personally for a time. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS ROYCE LTD. Day Ew | ||
