Report on test of steering pivot F.3283 which was been turned down at the root of the stub as indicated in sketch below.

This pivot is a standard pivot as is in use at present except that it was turned down to see how it behaved on the reversal test rig. This was done because of the breaking off of the stub axle on pivot F.3372 when run on the reversal test rig. This specially turned pivot lasted 34 hours 45 minutes before breaking and then gave way in the U.section in the usual way and not at the root of the stub axle like F.3372.

Six cross steering wheels were broken during this test, the length of life being as follows :-

1. - 11 hours.
2. - 9 "
3. - 7 "
4. - 6 "
5. - 4 "
6. - 15 minutes.
