[STAMP: RECEIVED 11 JUL 1931] [HANDWRITTEN: ACL V83196.] [CROSSED OUT TEXT: Sect. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} C. H.S. C. Er. Mr. Jaques.] Rg{Mr Rowledge}/Tsn2/DM.{D. Munro}6.7.31. Kestrel 39 Type Test Engine. Evaporatively Cooled. ------------------------- This engine should have the following modifications incorporated during reconditioning after the unsuccessful 2 hour run: (1) Phosphor-bronze bushes for supercharger intermediate gears. (2) Slot in high pressure relief valve seat. (3) Increased piston clearance. We think this should be standardised for evaporatively cooled engines. (4) Remove the cork washer in the carburetter and substitute a bronze one. (5) Delete gas starter relief valve. The Air Ministry wish us to test our standard system on air at 200 lbs/sq", and we can do the tests on the schedule for this type test at 200 lbs/sq" air supply pressure. Copy of the Air Ministry letter is attached. (6) The A.M. have asked us to fit new cylinder blocks, liners, and pistons, to this engine, so that the oil consumption with the new intermediate scraper rings can be measured under ideal conditions. Mr. Jaques has approved these modifications. Att. Rg{Mr Rowledge}/Tsn. | ||
