MATERIAL FOR GUDGEON PINS.

In view of R2/M.15.3.28. and to empower me to put R's proposal into force, would you kindly issue a standardisation sheet for both chassis, changing the material for gudgeon pins from C.H.N.S. to spring tempered Silico Manganese.

The question of wear is of course an important one, and personally I do not feel that we should make a sudden jump on the chassis unless we are fairly sure that the wear will not be abnormal due to the reduction in hardness of the material. The case-hardened material gives a surface approximately 577 brinell, whereas we should be working on a brinell of about 400.
