X967 EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} CH.MDR. CH.SFT.{Mr Swift} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}9/H12.11.23. re. 20-HP Faulty Bearings and Unsatisfactory Oil. Further to our memo EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}1/H6.11.23 and EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}2/H6.11.23 dealing with the above - you have now received from H1. copy of his report on the material taken from the crankshaft of the 20-HP 10,000 miles production test car, which analysis would certainly appear to confirm Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}'s suggestion that the Prices Oil as now used has deteriorated in quality and has caused all this trouble. We shall be glad to have some instructions from you as to how we can deal with the complaints which we are to experience with cars in service, i.e. 60-S-0 at Cricklewood as already reported. We take it that in such cases we cannot charge the customer as he is using the oil we recommend. We shall be glad, therefore, if you can let us have instructions as to whether this should be charged to B.D.M. or Works Policy. We shall also be glad to have as soon as possible some information which it appears we should convey to our various Depots etc. as to whether we should stop using Prices oil and what oil we can recommend, as from the present reports it would appear that we may be perpetuating considerable trouble and expense if we allow the cars to continue running as at present.
