USA COPY OF REPORT RECEIVED FROM Rs.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} IN U.S.A. DATED 4.3.34. To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rs.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} c. to HOr. c. to Rg.{Mr Rowledge} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} c. to Lr.{Mr Ellor} NEW YORK. Here is a slightly less futuristic sketch than previously of what I believe the Allison head to be like. The position is shown where they tried the central spark plug. With regard to petrol injection, I feel that, since it can be applied to any engine we make without much alteration, it might be worth some work while the compression ignition is hanging fire as a half way step for flying boats, as the best advantage can be gained with the over lap timing when the altitudes are low. They have had 174 B.M.E.P. with 7 -1C/R.{Sir Henry Royce} and 2 ins. Hg. boost using the 130° overlap. This with a consumption of .51 lbs/B.H.P./hr. at 1750 R.P.M. on a cylinder of 5.5" bore and 6" stroke. | ||
