Hallam - Head Repairs} EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} X3806 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn{Mr Robinson}2/LG6.4.29. BALL ON CROSS STEERING LEVER =7425 LUBRICATION. With reference to BY1/G5.4.29. The scheme tested out by Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} was for application to the standard Phantom where we can only get gravity oil feed to the balls. We have no difficulty on S.S. centre point lubricated cars because oil can be fed to the inside of the balls under pressure. The Phantom and 20 HP. in production now, however, are still lubricated in the same manner as the cars which caused PN.{Mr Northey} to make the complaint. We had hoped to get this improvement on them. Presumably, however, as it means new balls and the material for these cars has already been machined, this will not be possible. We should like the Repair Dept. to be able to replace seized up pads with this scheme, however, to eliminate further trouble, and are therefore issuing a standardisation sheet. We think, with advantage, it might be applied to the 20 HP. also. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} | ||
