CHASSIS B.106.HK.{Col. T. Harker - Sales} file 1245 We are in receipt of your memo Sr/VA.6/ET. 18.11.38 regarding excessive oil consumption on the above car. Before fitting the new cylinder block and pistons with which D/BP is going to supply you, we think it well worth while trying the following. (1) Fit a set of L section rings in the 2nd. compression grooves as standard practice on the 25/30. The number of these rings is E.61123, and in case you have none in stock we would like D/BP. to send you 8 such rings immediately. Where other things have failed we have found this type of ring a success. (2) Has the rocker shaft by mistake been put the wrong way round so that oil is flooding on to the valves ? In any case we think it worth while to fit new valve grummets to prove it is not oil getting down the valves as it seems rather odd that despite your previous fitment of rings etc. they have not given the desired result. (3) If the above fail and you cannot find anything further that is likely to cause the excessive consumption and you finally fit the new block and pistons, then we would advise you to open up the jet holes in the rods, as we have no experience of the new close clearance skirt pistons without the holes, particularly with new pistons.
