Re 44-PK.

At a conference with PN.{Mr Northey}, CWB., and BJ. on the 23rd January, PN.{Mr Northey} and CWB. reported the outcome of their visit to the works and recent test of E.A.C. car, as follows:-

1. No alterations to design, etc. as the outcome of their visit to the works, will be made to cause delay, which would not have been made in any case.

2. Tests are being made by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} with fabric coupling as quickly as possible, as it is realised that this form of coupling will prevent vibrations that cause body groans, etc.

3. Fabric coupling may be adopted on all V Series, but possibly it will have to be delayed until after some of the Vs{J. Vickers} have been made. This depends on the progress of the tests. It may be fitted to the first 10,000 miles test cars, but it is unlikely. It will probably be fitted to another 10,000 mile test car shortly after the first cars have started.

4. It is probably impossible to put this coupling on conversions chassis.

5. 44-PK, which we tried last week, will be sent back to S. as soon as possible (possibly including the fabric coupling) with the items of which we complained dealt with and made O.K.

6. It was ascertained that the steering was only awkward in the 'B' position and a separate memo. has been sent to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} concerning the alteration to this.

7. The stiffness of the steering was due to accident when originally fitting, and was quite unnecessarily stiff. It can be made O.K.

8. The switch will remain as it is.

9. It is agreed that the radiator shutter control should be easy to see and get at, as it is on the 20 h.p.

10. The instrument board on 44-PK was of an unusual design and a modern car of the same dimensions was examined and found to be O.K. It was agreed that 44-PK was unnecessarily wrong.

11. The jaggering of the clutch (mentioned by B.J. and others)
