HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} C. to DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} BRAKES. I understand that brake squeaks are from the front brakes chiefly. We have asked DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} to produce a design of shoe pivoted as a locomotive brake. This may have the desired effect on the squeaks, and add to the life of the brake shoe and the ease of bedding. I should anticipate that such brakes would be more consistent, and wear longer, but not so effectively powerful, but this could be easily corrected by adjustment of the leverage.
