To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Handwritten: X 7310 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/AJ.4.10.30. X. 7310. X. 5310. X. 523. Ré. Easy Change. Replying to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}3/23.10.30. The chief difference between the proposed epicyclic gear for the Phantom compared with the 25 HP. is that on the 25 HP. instead of using friction brakes, there is a positive lock for holding the annulus gears. The reason for fitting the Maybach clutches to the Present Phantom I gearbox is that we have the third gear helical and it is much quieter than the standard type. The idea of the Maybach clutch is to give us an easy change so that when this car is fitted up with the Maybach clutches we should have on there a sample of easy change and quiet third speed in its most simple form.
