I propose to run the light alloy drums on some of our transport cars with a view to getting a figure of merit for their reliability.

Before doing so, I should like a brief history of the development of the light alloy drum and the potential weight saving compared with the standard type of drum with the Pressed Steel back plate which we are at present using on the rationalised range.

In particular, on the light alloy drum I should like to know the manufacturing technique required to make the lining stay put.
