R.R. 235A (100 T) (S.H. 159. 11-8-20) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 2800 CC Mr. F.H. Royce. Mr. Belnap. Mr. Nadin. OY8/G19.7.21. Mr. Claude Johnson, Managing Director, Rolls-Royce Ltd., London, England. Attention Mr. Hives. Dear Sir:- X.3687 July 19th. 1921. X.3764 X.3687 X.3896 RE GAS TANK ON 4.EX. Replying to Mr. Hives letter Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG28.6.21. 1. Position of Filler & Luggage Grid. A blue print is enclosed showing the luggage grid and gas tank, to show the relation of the two. The luggage is not held exceptionally far back but there is just space on our long bodies, seven passenger, "B" steering, or five passenger, "D" steering, to get at the filler between the rear end of the body and front side of the box on the carrier. The carrier is an improved form of the Fleetwood seen by Mr. Hives when he was here, arranged for more robust construction and less weight. It incorporates a guard for the tank. 2. Reserve Compartment. We have not attempted to incorporate a reserve supply because what we had to do at the moment was to satisfy the demands of customers. A side filler and indicator was all they asked for, and is all that is absolutely essential. A double level device is an excellent safeguard, but the needle device sent over on 4.EX did not function. We still think that a simple cock, or an adaptation of the present petrol cock on the R.H. side of the car, can be made to work satisfactorily, as previously suggested but to incorporate such a device without long experimenting we felt to be a very risky proceeding. The desire for such a fitting in the minds of the public is not so strong as to force our hands. contd:- | ||
