HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} C. to BJ. WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} REVISED COPY. ORIGINAL NEXT 10,000 MILES PHANTOM. R1/M9.9.27. โ89406 X4663 โ8770 I quite agree with the list of improvements enumerated in your HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/LG6927. We have added some more at WW. so that the complete list should read as follows:- (1) TURBULENT HEAD in aluminium, 5 compression ratio, with valve push rods modified to suit. (2) IMPROVED CAST IRON CYL. BLOCK with anti-distortion webs and aluminium cover plates. (3) PEDESTAL PISTONS of single bolt type. We should prefer to make these of forged 'Y' metal. (4) PERFECT CIRCLE SCRAPER RINGS, or alternatively a drilled groove between the two bottom rings. Makes all rings alike, and spares and production easier. Also avoids heavy ring wearing sides of grooves, (new designs nearly ready.) (5) VALVE SPRINGS of improved low stress type (see other memo.) (6) VALVE ROCKERS modified to avoid side thrust and valve seat taps. (7) CARBURETTER with features for improved slow running, preferably Sch. (2) LeC. 2418. with altered controls. Try No.(1) and (2): if no difference then (1) can be used at once. (8) AIR VALVE in non-corrosive alloy. (9) PETROL FILTER of Zenith edge type and standard gauze filter deleted. (10) MAGNETO - new Watford sleeveless type. (11) EXHAUST SYSTEM with single downtake to suit parallel control of front axle, and having venturi instead of butterfly choke valve (if good on test.) (12) BATTERY IGNITION with - (a) tungsten points, (b) umbrella rotor, (c) double value ballast, (d) scrubbing points. (13) CENTRAL OILING SCHEME. (14) NEW SERRATED COUPLING FOR CLUTCH, increased efficiency of clutch brake. (15) TORQUE CONTROL FOR FRONT AXLE. (1) | ||
