X327 To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.19/KW.8.1.36. Phantom III Transverse Chassis Stays. Re E.1/HP.3.1.36. Although these have been fitted to the Bumper Chassis since the beginning of December, we have been unable to reproduce the sideways shake noticed on the bumper chassis. We altered the body brackets and the position of the chassis weights to correspond exactly to those on the chassis when we demonstrated the sideways shake, but with the bolts removed from one end of the stays no relative movement could be seen between the bolt holes. The 2 main differences in the chassis specification now are that (a) 7" initial deflection rear springs are fitted instead of 10" initial deflection, and (b) no petrol tank isfitted. At the beginning of next week we shall be bumping a new chassis which has the transverse stays, and a petrol tank fitted. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} | ||
