1021 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/EAG.2/ET. 25th April, 1941. C.T. CRIPPS, Esq., Pianoforte Supplies Ltd., Simplex Works, R O A D E, Northants. Dear Mr. Crips, Thank you for your letter of 21st April, with reference to Carpet Edging. We note that the cost of a set of rolls would be between £20 and £30. This, I think you will agree, is rather a lot of money for an experiment. I am wondering if it would be possible to make up two lengths from some pieces of corrugated step edging. You will undoubtedly remember that runningboards were usually finished with an edging which had a plain vertical border, with the horizontal portion on top of the boards corrugated. It would mean that the angle would have to be trimmed down to make it the required width. This also applies to depth, and possibly a fixing flange for the bottom of the section could be soldered on. If it was in steel, of course this could be spot welded, but I am of the opinion that most of the step angle was made either in brass or aluminium. As only the top portion of the section which we have in mind is shown, the finish of the edge and bottom does not matter. What we shall require will be two pieces 68 inches long. Kind regards, Yours faithfully, | ||
