1163 14th May 1937 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}5/AP. The Cambridge Instrument Co.Ltd., CAMBRIDGE Dear Mr.Mason, I have asked our Order Office to send you an order for the Accelerometer you made for us. In spite of the fact that it needs very careful handling it is a very useful instrument of reference. If you are making up another for anybody else, there are one or two suggestions I have which you might find useful - Owing to the rather large temperature effect it would probably be easier to correct the zero adjustment by sliding the graduated scale up and down. Some form of universal clamp would be an easier method of attaching to the motor car than the present vertical stand. I do not know whether it is possible to reduce the temperature effect; it is such that at the moment in a cold room, it is impossible to get a reading of less than .15. Another thing we have noticed is that the surface of the mercury when it is in contact with the red liquid, is broken up into many small bubbles. I cannot see if this affects the reading. I should like to have your views on this. Yours sincerely, | ||
